Meeting Marco Pierre White
Being in the culinary industry, I was more than excited when I found out that The Good Food & Wine Show 2017 was bringing Marco Pierre White as one of their guest chefs.
I immediately checked the dates for the Johannesburg Show & was a little sad to see that it was over the same weekend my hubby had planned a surprise date… So I started bugging him to book for the Durban show, I couldn't miss meeting Marco.
Little that I knew his surprise date was VIP tickets to meet Marco!
With the VIP tickets, we had front row seats in the Open Theatre & experienced live cooking by Marco.
The beautiful host, Chef Nti, was so lively & got us so excited for Marco's entrance! He made a Lobster dish (he loves lobster) & the audience had an opportunity to ask a few questions. He was so humble & honest, shared with us that he's only made mistakes & encouraged us to not give up & go after our dreams.
We then received his book & got invited to the cocktail meet and greet, in the VIP room, where we met Marco.
We also had a taste of his lobster dish, which was delicious of course & Chef Nti mingled with us, calmed our nerves & made us feel at home. She really was a fantastic host!
I was very nervous to meet Marco, even a little scared! Let's be honest he comes across a little intimidating on TV. My legs were shaking & I kept trying to plan in my head what I wanted to ask him…
When the moment came to meet him, I went blank & I couldn’t talk properly. I thought he wasn't going to understand me with my funny accent, but he was so friendly, It was so easy to converse with him. I told him I was Spanish & he added that his ex-wife was also Spanish. I was so happy to hear his favorite tapa is Tortilla de Patatas (Spanish Omelette). He was serious but was not shy to show his humor to the camera!
He also shared with us he will be doing Hells Kitchen Australia, I can't wait for that! I still remember when I saw him for the first time on Hells Kitchen UK, back in 2007. He was ruthless & fire, but always showed a great passion for the industry. I'm sure this new show will be as interesting!
I was in a bubble after meeting him, I felt so inspired & motivated. I couldn't believe that I had the opportunity to meet such an important influence to the Culinary industry!
Looking back at this memory made me realise that we shouldn't take special moments like this for granted. After all, life is made up of experiences that shape us into who we are. Then there are those once in a lifetime experiences. Meeting Marco was an unforgettable one.
This was the highlight of my year! What was yours? share it with me, I would love to know!
